Day 1 - Vancouver to Yakima

The Summit Pancake House has been buried under a late-season avalanche. And not a minute too soon.

Only in Washington State will you find a recharging station for your evergreen, tree-hugging, mountain-blasting all-electric snowmobile.

This is the Snoqualmie Ski area's automatic banana peeling machine. It's electric, too.

No worries - just one more month and we'll get 'er out.

Washington State's answer to Area 51. The Top-Secret, Eyes-Only, Password Protected (and it's not the President's dog's name) Exit 11.

One of the many bunkers housing alien technologies in Exit 11. We think the whole "Exit" thing is related to a wormhole they're keeping in there. We're pretty sure the wormhole goes to someplace called "Kansas".

The electric coffee that is all the rage here - e:Presso. You have to be a local to get one. When I tried to order one, all I got was a confused look. I think it's my Canadian accent.

Russ is feeling lighter than air after re - fueling. At least this coffee shop let him order one.

The one way out of town. All other roads lead here.

Emma discovers Northtown Coffee has moved into the old railway station. Thank goodness!

Northtown remains the gold standard for coffee in Yakima.

The Original Kite Eating Tree. I read it on a plaque.

Would you just get down from there so I can finish my walk?

No visit to Yakima is complete without a stroll around the ol' settlin' pond.

Must be something I ate.

Sunset at the settling pond.

Some Yakimanians observe a sunset tradition of standing still and facing east. In Canada we always stand still guarding stuff. We just don't know what.

Even the playground comes to a halt at the golden hour.

A few more Yakimanians observing the tradition.

The forest gets very agitated if not enough folks observe the sunset rituals.

Then suddenly that evening Yakima experiences a momentary shift of the space time continuum, and for a brief few seconds Russ becomes one with these tables. He doesn't recall a thing - especially not that he was screaming "all hands abandon ship"!!!

This car was also avictim. It doesn't remember anything either.

We decide to beat a hasty retreat from downtown Yakima, leaving the creepy hunter behind. It's only day one, and we're already activating the warp drive.
